The Pomo Indians originally lived in this area. Fort Bragg, a few ilex from Mendocino was a military garrison at one time to oversee this group of Pomo Indians.

The trip to our first Redwood adventure was deep within the Forest Preserve. These are retaining walls built to protect the road. Rocks held together by wire mesh.
